To Ten Million Fireflies

[Momo]

The soft music had faded into the background by now as the willow tree came into sight. She was humming softly, her dress flowing around her knees as she picked her way toward the tree. She carried dasies in her hands, her friends favorite flower. Her brown eyes stayed on the ground as she walked, before they wandered up. As she got close to the tree she smiled softly. "Hello Emily...how are you today?" She whispered. She liked to talk to her dead bestfriend, even though she didn't think that Emily was even around to hear her talk. She missed her friend dearly, she had no one to confined in anymore, no one to tell secerts to, she had been crushed when Emily took her life. She stopped infront of the tree, gazing up at it with a soft frown and then a weak smile. "I've been okay. It's hard around this time...I always think of you." She looked around. "The fireflies arn't out yet...you always liked them. I guess that's why you loved this place so much." she sniffed quietly as she gently laid the flowers down. "I brought dasies again...I guess I should get some different flowers...but I know you like dasies." She rubbed at her eyes as she whispered the words out. She slowly moved over, sitting down by the flowers and pulling her legs up. "I wish you were here Emily. It's so lonely without you." She sniffed again as she stared out over the field. "Come out little fireflies..." She murmured, giving a weak smile.

[Fox]

Fingers trailed lightly along the branch that he sat on. His sad looking greyish blue eyes gazed down at Maria. He'd seen her before at the festival. She always came here, seemingly talking to herself. His childishness always caught hold of him, becoming as curious as a kitty. He blinked at her as one small firefly landed on his shoulder and lit up like a fire springing forth through the darkness. He glanced at the firefly, wondering if the girl would see it, there by seeing him too. "Little firefly... You're early." He spoke up, making it seem like he was speaking to the firefly, but in some sort of metephorical way, he was speaking to Maria. "Today is a sad day for you isn't it. Maybe that's why you're early. So your friends don't see you crying." He referenced the other fireflies to the word 'friends'.

[Momo]

She caught sight of the light and glanced up, hearing the voice before her eyes found the young man. She had tears in her eyes as she stood and stepped away from the tree. "Who are you?" She asked, reaching up to rub at her eyes, flipping her glasses up as she did so. She'd never seen this young man before, what was he doing here? She looked around, wondering if he might be waiting for a girl. She knew this tree, it was the tree couples always shared a kiss under during the festival at sunset. She casted her eyes back up to him, if he hadn't spoke she might not have seen him sitting there. She waited for him to speak, glancing down as she backed away to get a better look at him, making sure not to step on the flowers that were close by.

[Fox]

He quickly turned himself around, causing the firefly to fly away, attempting to climb down the tree. Though it was less than graceful. He sliped when he was almost at the bottom, falling and landing on his back. He layed there for a few moments, before tilting his head back so he could see her. He gave a small smile to her. "My name is Hotaru." He spoke softly.

[Momo]

She stared at him as he came down, smiling just a little when he slipped and ended up landing on his back. "Hello Hotaru..." She said, wrapping her arms around herself. "I'm...Maria." She said, staring away and out over the field, wondering if the fireflies had come out yet. She always came and watched them come out. THey always cheered her up a little. She turned her brown eyes back to Hotaru. "Why are you here? Are you waiting for someone?" She was trying not to cry as she stood there, shivering a little.

[Fox]

He carefully stood up, still smiling at her. "Waiting for someone..?" He shook his head. "No... I uhm.." He paused thinking about it for a moment. "I live here." He said after a while of not really knowing how to put it. He knew exactly was he was since he was born, a given knowledge from God, along with the ability to talk, and some other knowledges so he didn't act three.

[Momo]

She blinked as he spoke, tilting her head. "You live here? How? There arn't any houses around here." She commeneted, gazing around. "I've never seen you before." Maria spoke. She'd been coming here for three years and many more times before that with Emily but she'd never seen him before. Hotaru...he had almost the same kind of smile as Emily, or was she just pretending things? To make herself feel better. She ran fingers though her hair with a soft sigh.

[Fox]

"Uhmm." He paused, fiddling around with his fingers. "It's odd to explain. You wouldn't believe me." His eyes blinked at her, the favorite color of Emily's, even if it was a kind of sad color. A lit firefly landed on Maria's nose, and another one on her shoulder.

[Momo]

She couldn't help but let out a soft giggle as a firefly landed on her nose. "Well hello there mister flyfire." She said, moving to gently brush it off her face and watching as it flew away. She looked at the one on her shoulder and then back at Hotaru. His eyes were the same color as emily's favorite color. She shook her head suddenly and turned her back to him to stare out over the field. Fireflies were staring to come out, just a few, not many. She reached up to rub at her eyes again as the tears came back.

[Fox]

"Are you cold, miss?" He said walking up behind her. He placed his arms carefully around her and held her close, almost affectionatly. His body was warm, almost like being near a fire.

[Momo]

She blinked as he did this, tensing a little. She relaxed and closed her eyes, feeling tears slip pass. He was so much like Emily...how could this man remind her of her bestfriend when she'd never seen him in her life. She let out a quiet sob as she sagged against him. She ducked her head and her hair fell to the side of her face, hiding it.

[Fox]

Hotaru flinched a little as she did these, the negative feeling attacking him. "Miss... Please don't be sad." He spoke softly, in a calming voise. "Please... Don't be sad." He repeated, flinching again.

[Momo]

She stopped crying as the second flinch came, rubbing at her eyes. "But I can't help but be sad...I miss Emily..." She sighed, rubbing at her eyes and leaning back against him a little. "Thank you for trying to comfort me. You can call me Maria though." She told him with a faint smile.

[Fox]

"Maria..." He spoke testing the name out on his lips. "That's a very pretty name." He complemented her. He adjust himself so that Maria would be more comfortable.

[Momo]

She blushed a little and shifted as well. "Thank you." She told him. "Emily used to tell me that to." She added with a soft sigh as she stared out over the field, waiting for the fireflies to come out. "If you live here...have you ever seen me come here before?" She questioned after a while. "I've never seen you before." she told him.
