To Ten Million Fireflies

[Fox]

"I've seen you come here before." He commented. "After Emily had dyed." He added. He shifted, wanting to tell her what he truly was.

[Momo]

"I see..." She said quietly, staring off out over the field. "Emily died here...she loved this place. I don't want to forget it." She told him with a weak smile. "It was her favorite place to come." she added. "It always made her happy to see the fireflies." she added, frowning just a little.

[Fox]

His heart started to pound against his chest, as his nervousness built up. "Maria... I'm not human." He shoved the words out of his mouth. He adjusted his grip on her, in a comforting way, as if he didn't want her to leave from her place in his arms.

[Momo]

She frowned a little and turned to look at him, giving him a funny little smile. "What do you mean? You look perfectly human to me." She said, blinking her brown eyes up at him. "Are you still trying to cheer me up? Telling me jokes or something?" She asked.

[Fox]

Hotaru thought for a moment, watching as a lit firefly landed on his shoulder. The sun was half way set by now and more fireflies were coming out. He shook his head a little. "Have you heard..." He paused trying to remember the towns name for him. "Have you heard of the 'Firefly Spirit'? The one who protects this tree?" He asked, his eyes blinking at her.

[Momo]

She smiled and nodded. "Of course! Everyone knowns about the spirit." She said wrinkling her nose. "But that's just a kids story right? It's just something everyone talks about during the festival, it doesn't mean anything." She tilted her head, blinking at him.

[Fox]

He took a couple stpes backwards from her, already thinking of a way to prove to her that he wasn't human. "Well.. No. Uhm..." He paused, thinking. "Hmmm... Well here... Do I remind you of your friend, Emily?" He asked, believing that this would be a good start.

[Momo]

She stared at him for a moment and then looked away, nodding. "Yes you do." she said quietly, as if reminded of something that hurt her alot. She brushed her fingers though her hair as she turned her back to him to stare out at the fireflies that were floating around.

[Fox]

He watched her, thinking he should just be quiet now. But he couldn't shut his mouth, just like a child. "Well... To Emily... She would think me to be the perfect person. For I am made up of all the things that she likes." He spoke softly.

[Momo]

She looked back at him, tears in her eyes. "Are arn't joking right? You're being serious. That would be terribly mean of you if you were joking." She said, sobbing at the end of her sentances and turning her back to him again and pressing her face into her hands as she pressed her glasses up to the top of her head.

[Fox]

"Ehm.." he waved his left hand a little bit at her, and placed his right hand over his chest, clutching his heart as if he'd been stabbed. He carefully got down on his knees, and sat there for a moment. "P... Please don't cry..." He asked, in an almost frightened voice.

[Momo]

Her tears slowly came to a stop as she sniffed, looking back at him. "What's wrong?" She asked him, pushing her glasses back down after rubbing her eyes. She wrapped her arms around herself and felt like hitting her head on that willow tree. She sniffed again.

[Fox]

He shook his head softly. He looked up at her, his eyes gleaming with pain. "Negative emotions.. like your sorrow... They hurt me." He told her, his hand still clutching his heart.

[Momo]

She sniffed again and watched him still. "I can't help it...i'm sorry." she shifted on her feet. "I miss Emily..." she murmured, looking at her feet next. She gasped as suddenly fireflies exploded around them in light. She hadn't noticed the last of the suns rays had disappeared. She turned to look out at them, smiling softly. All her pain and sorrow was forgotten in that short moment as she stared out at the beautiful pinpoints of light.

[Fox]

He sighed carefully, removing his hand from his heart. He smiled lightly. "You like the fireflies..." He said. "They make you feel better." He added.
