To Ten Million Fireflies

[Fox]

Hotaru closed his eyes tightly. "She was hurt." He frowned feeling the aching pain in his heart that Emily had given him.

[Momo]

"But she could have told someone!" She said. "We could helped her." She rubbed at her eyes. She'd stopped crying, to dried out for tears now. She just stared blankly down at the ground beneath her.

[Fox]

Hotaru took a moment to think things over and to think of words. "Sometimes.. The pain is too strong. It hurts so much that it silences your words." He blinked at her, trying to figure out a way to make her smile.

[Momo]

She shook her head. She didn't say anything though afraid that if she did she might cry again. She moved her hands to twine her fingers with his, liking the solid feel of them.

[Fox]

He took one hand from her, leaving the other one entwined with hers. He placed the hand across her cheek, partially on her neck, just below her ear. Then, he tilted her head up and lean forwards kissing her. He didn't quite understand why he was doing this, but he thought it was necessary.

[Momo]

She froze in surprise for a moment and then slowly melted into the kiss. She let her eyes close and her body lean in a little closer to his.

[Fox]

The kiss, to Hataru, seemed to last forever. The fireflies alighted on him and on her as well; some of them danced in the starlight above their heads. He shifted only slightly, opening his eyes half way to see what he was doing, as he fell deeper into the kiss before closing his eyes again.

[Momo]

It was like all the bad feelings just wandered away, it wasn't like the past few years where she'd been locking them away and hiding them. They were just gone...not there at all. Only the good emotions remained...and she liked it, she wanted more of that. She shifted, not breaking contact as she snuggled closer into him, wrapping her arms around his neck.

[Fox]

Hotaru blinked when the kiss finally ended. He held her close to his chest where his heart, where Emiliy's heart, was. "Maria.. There's no reason for you to cry anymore."

[Momo]

She rested her head against his chest, listening to his heart beat. "Really? That would be nice." She said quietly. "I miss her though." She murmured, she missed Emily...but for some reason she felt suddenly okay with that.

[Fox]

He smiled to himself. "I'm sure she wouldn't want you to be sad."

[Momo]

She nodded a little. "She hated when anyone was sad." He commented, closing her eyes.

[Fox]

He nodded, holding her. He watched the fireflies flicker back and forth; dancing with one another. "Should we head back to your house?"

[Momo]

She opened her eyes and nodded. "Yes...we probably should. It still is late." she commented, shifting in his arms and leaning up to look at him. "Thanks for cheering me up." she told him.

[Fox]

He smiled half-heartedly. "No need to thank me." He shifted, releasing her and turning to face the trail back to the town.
